For Immediate Release: Two days after the election of Barack Obama, J. Stan McCauley withdraws from the Republican Party and joins the Working Families Party. It has become abundantly clear that the Hartford Republican Party is not interested in moving forward an agenda that holds the current administration accountable, nor is it willing to reach out to the minority communities that make up the greater part of hartford’s population. I and my fellow colleagues from the 4th district on the Republican Town Committee, were continually at odds with the rest of the committee members and the Town Chairman. During the recent search for members of the Charter Revision Commission, it was a City Council Person from the Working Families Party that called and asked if they could submit my name as a candidate to serve as a member of the commission. Though my name was rejected by the majority of city council, the very notion that a Working Families Party member was more interested in putting Hartford before party pettiness I found refreshing. After attending and observing City Council meetings for the past eleven months, it is Working Families Party members Dr. Larry Deutsch and Luis Cotto that have been at the forefront of informing the public during council meetings. And it has been the Working Families Party that has truly become the loyal opposition. After consultation with my political team, it is their consensus and I concur, that to expect the Republican party in Hartford to change is delusional at best. Hartford has neighborhoods and small businesses that need a strong voice. I believe that as a member of the Working Families Party I will be able to work with a broad base of Hartford residents and tax payers interested in putting Hartford before party and together we can work for the changes that our diverse communities need. These are just a few of the reasons I have decided to withdraw from the Republican Party and join the Working Families Party. I would also encourage others to strongly consider the Working Families Party as an alternative to the status quo.
Hi my name is J. Stan
McCauley. I think
education, economic development, public safety, our parks and
recreational services, the public works department, and job creation are
important issues in our city. If you are like me I’m sure you wonder if
you are getting your monies worth from the current administration in
return for the taxes you pay.
Join me and my team: Kevin Brookman, Gerry Pleasent, Angel Morales, and Kevin Carroll as we discuss these and other hard issues facing Hartford. Watch “ ONE HARTFORD” every Sunday night on Hartford Public Access Television cable channel 5 at 10:00 pm. or log on any time to www.1hartford.com.Call me at 944-9797 with your ideas and let us fight for you! Below are a few ideas that I think will work in Hartford. Economic Development Bio-diesel fuel production facility in Hartford. It’s a green company that will provide needed jobs. Diesel vehicles will be retro fitted to use this fuel. Reducing the environmental impact on our air and wetlands. Reduction of lung diseases associated with diesel emissions.Make Hartford the “Low Budget Motion Picture” and “Recording Arts” capitol of the world. This will provide entry level jobs and training for city residents to break into Connecticut’s growing film industry.Establish a Small Business Employment Tax deduction. This would offset the rising cost of doing business in Hartford due to property tax-revaluation. This will help hard pressed small businesses to stay in Hartford. Small businesses in Hartford hire Hartford Residents so this translates to jobs for Hartford residents.Hold an Annual International Idea Festival. Searching for new business opportunities to come to Hartford using venture capitalist.Introduce “City Employee Housing Program” Legislation. Initially for police officers and teachers so that we can recruit personnel that will live in the city as well as provide an incentive for city residents to apply for jobs as police officers, firefighters, and teachers.I am committed to the creation of a serious regional transportation system. Rapid transportation throughout the Metro Hartford Region means more jobs! It Also reducing the fuel cost burdens on greater Hartford citizens. Education and Youth “Urban Education Initiative”. A leadership intervention program whose mission is to provide leadership training and mentoring for Bulkeley, Hartford Public, and Weaver High schools students.“Young Women Empowerment Initiative” Headed up by community volunteers, this is a pregnancy prevention program that focuses on the serious consequences to school age youth that engage in sexual activity. The seriousness of this issue can not be understated!“Neighborhood Recording Studios” and “Neighborhood Block Camps” Crime and Public Safety We need a regional anti-drug program in conjunction with Federal, State, Local law enforcement, and area community groups. I want to move forward my anti-crime initiative. Under 2 for you! – Reducing the police response time down to two minutes for urgent calls. We need a comprehensive "Ex-offender Training and Apprenticeship Initiative" What call "The One for One Flip" to regain our neighborhoods. Provide entry level jobs and training for city residents to break into Connecticut’s growing construction and building trades. "The Power of Love" J. Stan McCauley gives a thought provoking speech on "The Power of Love" in fighting against senseless killings due to gun violence at the first annual Cory A Forrest Special Life and Scholarship Foundation’s “Rise Up To Stop Gun Violence!” rally held Saturday July 21, 2007.
